| Q: | On a reconstruction map, is everything, that is not a fragment, ocean crust? | |
| A: | No! It can be ocean crust, but it doesn't have to be. Since plate fragments altered their shape and appearence during their drift, due to collisions, streching, subsidence etc. it's not allways possible to reconstruct the exact shape of each plate fragment in the past. For this reason, the fragments might have been a bit bigger or smaller, than they appear to be today. Small or even medium sized basins forming between fragments during the reconstruction, could hence be artefacts of this error. |
