| This page is intended to give information on updates and new features on this site. I'll mention major changes and updates here, so you might want to take a look frequently, if anything you allways wanted was added. | |
| 5/18/2011 | After almost 2 years offline, the server was finally ported from the backups to a new system. Many things had to be adapted, the source for the old programs had to be searched and recompiled from the old backups, as the old system was a Sun Sparc, now everything runs on a modern Linux system. The calculation speed improved quite dramatically. No technical improvements though, some services may not be working properly yet, but the situation is beginning to become better. |
| 6/01/2009 | After almost 12 years of continuous operation the server finally gave up. The service was offline for almost 2 years. |
| 2/14/99 | Finally a major update to the plate tectonic mapping system. Several features were
added:
|
| 2/10/99 | Added a little program to convert ages based on magnetic events from different timescales. It's located at Convert Timescales. Currently seven different numerical timescales of the cenozoic and late mesozoic are available. |
| 12/07/98 | Added lists of available fossils to the Fossil distributions. Also added some links to nice animated plate-reconstructions on the plate tectonic animation page. |
| 2/20/98 | Added option to plot Age/Depth Ranges for calcareaous nannos and planktonic foraminifera in the range charts. Check out the listings per leg in the rangechart section. |
| 2/10/98 | Made a new Plate Tectonic animation. The old one used an ugly
mapprojection and wasn't embedded into an html-page. Well, this one is better, but
slightly bigger (330 Mb).
Also added a label on each Plate Tectonic Reconstruction, which tells the age of the calculated reconstruction. Before it wasn't mentioned, so I allways forgot, which age I had plotted .... Also added the small spinning globe on the main Plate Tectonic Reconstruction page. Do you like it? |
| 2/08/98 | Added many ODP-holes to the Fossil distribution mapping system. These now include Legs 104 and 112-144. Data were taken from the downloadable excel sheets at the janus/tamu www site. |
| 2/01/98 | Installed a statistics package about this server here. Actually I intended it to be for only our own control of this site, but since there aren't much people checking the history anyway, I thought you should be rewarded by this option. Thanx for checking this page! |
| 1/19/98 | Finally - we got the 2Mb Internet line. Everything should download much faster now, map calculation of course still takes a while, but now alls this does have a chance to be used. |
| 1/15/98 | Added DSDP-carbon and carbonate data as tables. You can find those in the physical properties section. I'll add the real phys prop's later. |
| 12/04/97 | Complete redesign of site appearence. The handling of the site and pages was improved as well. |
| 11/14/97 | Changed the Rangecharts to html-tables, with a link to the ASCII- Charts. |
| 11/06/97 | Established the Fossil distribution mapping system (only for DSDP-holes so far) and connected it to the platetectonic mapping system. This works very well so far. |
| 10/30/97 | Added the rangecharts. There still are some problems loading them into Excel. |
| 10/27/97 | The start is allways slow.... The paleo plate tectonic mapping system works ok, the forum and the search engine as well. No rangecharts though and the database isn't available yet. I'm also still working on the helpfiles. |
